LawDog on Self Defence

I've just started reading LawDog. One of the more interesting reads on his blog is his Meditations on Self Defence, I'm not sure if I entirely agree with it but it is still an interesting take on the issue of self-defence.

Israelites are as Bad as Nazis

... according to Hamas: apparently Mahmoud al-Zahar (Hamas' founder) thinks that a revolt in Gaza would be morally equivalent of Jews involved in the Warsaw Uprising. Yeah, because you know, there's quite a few Palestinian extermination camps in Israel [by most estimates: ZERO]. And it's not like the Gaza Strip is virtually a independent country or anything, according the Wikipedia: since "12 September 2005, the Palestinian Authority had complete administrative authority in the Gaza Strip", admittedly Israel does control the Sea along the Coast line and all of the Airspace, but, while this is a rare arrangement between two independent countries, it is not unheard off.¹ So basically Hamas² is complaining because Israel does not allow them to freely cross the borders between itself (Israel) and a hostile country ruled by a terrorist organization that has as one of it's stated objectives the destruction of the Israeli nation, and is known for suicide bombings against civilians, gee I wonder why. I also wonder why Hamas doesn't feel the need to complain about Egypt (a fellow Islamic nation) also having a closed border policy?

A Tale of Two Companies

In business news the CEO of Bunyip Industries has informed the Chairman of Dragons Incorporated that he is concerned about their significant abuses of their employees, despite continuing to negotiate a closer trade arrangement, including various technological exchanges, between the two companies. Dragons Incorporated has a history of abuses against their employees, up to and including the murder of employees known to disagree with their managers. Dragons Incorporated is currently facing sever criticism about their treatment of a particular subsidy relatively recently gained in a hostile take-over. Strangely enough, many of Bunyip Industries' employees have expressed pleasure at this development, though there does appear to be a minority of employees that are uncomfortable with this development.

Affirmative Action in the Victorian Police

Looks like a significant chunk of the Victorian police force is pissed of at affirmative action, even some of the female cops are angry about it. Basically what the government has done is that when they found that not many females where capable of passing the training as is rather than just accepting that maybe males where, on average, more suited to the police force and that therefore they would be more numerous than the chicks they decided to remove important components of the training (the ones that normally gave women trouble) to improve the sexual diversity of the police force. So now the majority of the new cops (both male and female because the male's training has changed too) would have been considered sub-quality by past standards. Lovely, just lovely.

Tired

I must be tired, after reading this article I can't even work up the motivation to make some snarky comments about how the reason why they were so "brazen" was because there was no one in the school capable of doing anything about them. Or about how retarded "lockdown" is as a defensive technique. So I'll just keep it short and sweet: "The best way to deal with a knife wielding maniac is to pack a gun and shoot the stupid punk." But, no the idea of letting people defend themselves or those around them is so utterly foreign to our society. Oh, well at least one of the teachers had some courage to defend the children in his care. Will you look at that now I'm angry at society and the police for encouraging this sort of pathetically wussy response ("lockdown") and I've actually written significantly more than I thought I would.

Police seize useless tube from farm

Apparently the police seized a 66-millimetre "bazooka" on a farm in Queensland. My guess is that it is actually a spent M72¹ launcher, since real Bazookas don't come in 66 mm. Also the M72 was designed as a single use weapon so the spent launcher is pretty much just a useless tube, hence the title, and is about as dangerous as a spent bullet shell, ie not really at all. The police even said that it "is not operable". Also, it's nice too see that 12 years of our strict gun control laws still haven't got rid of the guns, since this guy had another 16 firearms and the police implied that at least some of them are functional, just lovely.

Not Conservative

The Federal Opposition (The Coalition) is far from conservative. Case in point.
