Police seize useless tube from farm

Apparently the police seized a 66-millimetre "bazooka" on a farm in Queensland. My guess is that it is actually a spent M72¹ launcher, since real Bazookas don't come in 66 mm. Also the M72 was designed as a single use weapon so the spent launcher is pretty much just a useless tube, hence the title, and is about as dangerous as a spent bullet shell, ie not really at all. The police even said that it "is not operable". Also, it's nice too see that 12 years of our strict gun control laws still haven't got rid of the guns, since this guy had another 16 firearms and the police implied that at least some of them are functional, just lovely.

British Hero

Looks like bravery among the Brits is not yet extinct: Lance Corporal Matt Croucher "threw" himself over grenade to save comrades. While he didn't actually "throw" himself on the grenade, he did deliberately place himself between it and his troop, so good on him.

Grossly Inappropriate

"3 years jail for nursing home rapist". And really he probably won't even serve that, he was given a minimum of six months, so in all likelihood he'll be out significantly before the three years mark.

Not Conservative

The Federal Opposition (The Coalition) is far from conservative. Case in point.

Binge Drinking

On the train last night, I saw this in a newspaper: "Dangerous Booze Blamed for Binge Drinking Epidemic"¹. Nope, can't be the binge drinkers' fault, most be the drinkies.

Iraq Opinion

Michael J. Totten's article on Iraqi Opinion Polls is well worth a read.

Browser Startup

I've noticed an annoying little problem with a couple of open source web browsers namely Seamonkey and Kazehakase. Both of them have the same problem when you run them the normal way, ie by entering they're name on the command line, they fail to do anything if you already have the program open nothing happens. I'd prefer if they instead opened a new window, so I've written scripts to "fix" this. Basically each of the scripts checks to see if the program is already open and if so simply open a new window, otherwise they start the program. Both scripts work slightly differently but accomplish nearly the same task (the Kazehakase one will not open a link in the new window).
